Girls’ Leadership Worldwide

“You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing you think you cannot do.” – Eleanor Roosevelt

Where Passion Met Purpose

From 1997-2019, the Eleanor Roosevelt Center at Val Kill hosted Girls’ Leadership Worldwide (GLW), a one-of-a-kind experience for young women to discover their passions, build the confidence to take on their dreams, develop their voices, and unwrap a world of leadership potential.

Each summer, girls from across the country and around the globe were brought together for a unique nine-day leadership program inspired by the life lessons and leadership legacy of First Lady of the World Eleanor Roosevelt. Over the course of the program, girls experienced interactive workshops, participated in field trips, visited career sites, networked with and learned from accomplished female leaders, and gained a new perspective on leadership–all while building an international community of peers and lasting bonds of sisterhood.

Girls emerged from GLW transformed and re-energized, ready to be the compassionate, socially-conscious and fearless leaders of a new tomorrow.
