The Friends Committee of ERVK, comprised of a group of dedicated volunteers (some of whom knew Mrs. Roosevelt), supports the program and work of ERVK through active participation in a broad range of projects that enhance the legacy of Eleanor Roosevelt.
Spring Brunch/Picnic – Each Spring, the Friends Committee invites the public to Stone Cottage as life emerges from the winter snow. A brunch is served and a local person speaks briefly. Guests are free to enjoy the site.
New Citizens Event – The Friends Committee annually also carries on one of Mrs. Roosevelt’s favorite traditions by welcoming new U.S. citizens to celebrate the 4th of July and hear the Declaration of Independence read. The first event was held in 1988.
Commemorating Eleanor Roosevelt’s Birthday – Every October since 1979, the Friends Committee of ERVK has been hosting a special birthday reception every year.
Candlelight Ceremony – Each December, members of the community are honored for the difference they make in the lives of individuals and within our community. A special Candlelight Award is given each year to an individual who has contributed tirelessly to their community without much recognition for their actions.
Refer to the News and Upcoming Events column on the home page and the ERVK Calender for information about current Friends Committee programs and events. |
